Share the Love

Have you just finished a book you really enjoyed? Do you know how you can thank the author? Do you know how to publish a review? There are many ways to spread the word about an author you enjoy! With the assistance of some other bloggers, I would love to show you how to share the love.

If You Love a Book Author and Want to Help Them

One of the easiest ways to spread the word about the book you loved is post about it on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, wherever you connect with others. You can keep it as simple as clicking the “like”, “+1”, or “I recommend”  and the share buttons on the author’s fan page.  You can also click the “like” and “share” buttons provided by the retailer from whom you purchased the book.

Posting a review is another great way to share the love. Many people, myself included,  are often intimidated by the idea of writing of a review. We think we have to write like the professional reviewers. We don’t. Again, you can keep it simple. “I really enjoyed this book”, “I couldn’t put it down”, “Loved reading this”, etc. is okay. Watch this YouTube video by author Michael Hicks  to learn how to post a review on Amazon. The same process applies to Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, and other book purchasing sites.

If you want to try your hand at a more detailed review, I found these interesting aids on Pinterest. They are for students, but clearly detail what is required in a good book review.

Some of their suggestions will take a little more time, i.e. creating a Wikipedia page for the author, contacting radio stations, interview shows, PR outlets, reviewers, etc. Other ideas will cost some money, if you have some to spare, i.e. buy extra copies of your friend’s book to give away, hire a publicist, purchase some ads, etc.  Several others are as easy as suggesting the book to your book club or library.

What creative ways can you add to share the love of your favorite authors. I can assure you we all appreciate whatever you can do to spread the word about our books.
